The college of business and economics (CoBE) has seen dramatic change in the last few decades. Teleprompters, green screens and smart boards have replaced typewritters and main frames. The reputation of the college has led to a record enrollment.

The College of Business and Economics today is much different than its predecessor, commercial education. From fringe curriculum to an international entity, the university’s business school was launched from humble beginnings, but is now considered by many to be a leader in business education.

After considering a student body request to view the big picture, the College of Business and Economics hosted its first State of the College Address last Wednesday. It was organized by the Dean’s Advisory Council to inform students of priorities of the College and changes they can expect to see. This included a new curriculum, a revised mission statement and a campaign to improve the College’s reputation as an elite business school.

When asked what the Sales Institute of Excellence will offer students, Professor of Marketing James Pletier spelled it out, “J-O-B-S.” Since its approval in February, the Institute has established certification programs in collaboration with almost 20 companies, which want students to fill jobs and internships.
