Whitewater City Council voted on UW-Whitewater junior Stephanie Abbott to fill the District 2 seat.

With UW-Whitewater being such a prominent part of the Whitewater community, students are affected by decisions made by the local government. UW-Whitewater students must become more aware of how decisions affect their lives here in Whitewater and the businesses they benefit from.

In the only contested local race Tuesday, incumbent Jim Olsen was re-elected as the District 1 common council representative, defeating political newcomer Michael LeBlanc by a vote of 418-134. Olsen, 53, called the voter turnout “astronomical” and said he appreciated the support.
