According to the National Weather Service, 6-10 inches of snow accumulation was expected for Tuesday.
The 6-10 inches will be on top of the four inches that fell Monday. There is also an expected snow accumulation of one inch on Wednesday.
Whitewater City Manger Kevin Brunner said the city finished last year on par with the annual snow budget.
“For this winter, we had the one major storm around Christmas,” Brunner said. “January has also been relatively calm snow-wise.”
Brunner said the city is concerned about the large amount of snow expected, but since it is to come over two to three days, it will be more manageable.
This year’s snow budget is $137,000 for the city. The budget covers labor, snow and sand, equipment, truck maintenance and de-icers, Brunner said.
Brunner said the city spent nearly $250,000 on snow related expenses in 2008.
“When the city goes over budget, we take funds from other accounts,” Brunner said. “We don’t just leave the streets unsafe.”
When a large amount of snow falls, the city announces a snow emergency, which restricts street parking so plows can clear the streets. Brunner said city officials caution citizens from being on streets more than they need to be.
Weather for the last half of the week is expected to be clear skies with cold temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.
