Roberta’s Art Gallery has a new exhibit this week titled Seek and You Will Find: Great Moments in Time, by photographer David Hall, that allows students to see the world through unique perspectives.

With more than 60 aluminum printed photographs affixed on the walls of Roberta’s Art Gallery, David Hall inspires students to break free from the constraints of mobile photography and discover the world through a new lens. His goal is to make the Whitewater community reflect on their ability to live in the moment, rather than snapping a quick photo or selfie and moving on. There are photographs from all around the world, including Morocco, Greece, England, Italy and even the American Badlands.

“My goal is to capture the movement with a perspective unlike the one you shoot with your phone. As you look at each of my photographs, imagine you are here. In the moment, warmth of the light, breadth of the scene, wind on your face,” says David Hall, the exhibit photographer.

Hall’s childhood seems like a fairy tale. He and his family have traveled through 48 states over the years, with his father taking landscape photographs along the way. Hall received a polaroid camera in his adolescence, and as a teenager he got a film camera and began to follow in his dad’s footsteps of capturing landscapes. While pursuing a degree from UW-Madison, his photography skills improved and he started to sell his work.

Along with selling his photographs, Hall also teaches biochemistry, which gives him the opportunity to travel across the world.

“Art is believed to be a universal language, and being a resource for UW-Whitewater, Roberta’s Art Gallery collaborates with students, campus departments, and student organizations,” says Kate Amerling, the PR Intern for Roberta’s Art Gallery.

Roberta’s Art Gallery aspires to connect students and the Whitewater community through exciting art, workshops, and free activities. The Roberta’s Art Gallery team wants to inspire students to explore their own creativity.
