Roberta’s Art Gallery and the Office of Global Experiences host the 7th Annual International Photo Contest featuring photographs from both faculty and students. The winners are on display at the gallery, which opened on March 6 and will continue until April 9.

“The benefits of studying abroad, I can’t even begin to describe. It is a life changing experience, if you go with the intention of growing as a human being. It’s so easy when you’re abroad in a new environment with a different culture and something you never experienced before, it’s difficult to put into words, it means that much,” said Strahinja Pantelic, an employee of the Office of Global Experiences.

Photographing your time abroad can be a very helpful and meaningful tool to remember your experiences after you return. The photographs, the winners and the experiences of the UW-Whitewater students and faculty can be seen at Roberta’s Art Gallery in the University Center.

“David Hall … is coming in to judge the international photo contest, so it’s going to be really fun to have him back at the gallery and see all the students and faculty work,” said Kate Amerling, the Public Relations intern for Roberta’s Art Gallery.

David Hall is a professional photographer who was featured previously in Roberta’s Art Gallery and was present for this event to help judge the photos for this contest. Hall frequently recommends that students put down their phones to capture the world around them without a screen as a distraction.

“Regularly take a long walk as a break from studying. Look around. Stop and sit and observe. Let your thoughts go and don’t look at your phone the entire time … Feel the wind on your face, hear the birds sing, watch the shadows dance around you,” said Hall.
