Remember that Hispanic Heritage Month is for recognizing the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture and achievements of the United States. There are ways in which students have celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by doing a photo contest with pictures of people who are contributing to American Culture. People have a cookout to celebrate the Hispanic heritage with friends and family, highlighting Latinx/Hispanic food. Others showcase Hispanic/Latinx clothing on a specific day, gather or host a party. Some gather to view a movie in Spanish or that is directed by a Chicano/Latinx director. You can attend poetry or short story readings by Chican@s, Hispanic/Latinx authors in the U.S.A. Drawing out chalk murals with Chican@/Latinx/Hispanic themes on the sidewalk can be fun. It's important to share how the Hispanic/Latinx community is enriching and renewing your hometown, and learning about the history of American Hispanic people in the U.S.A.
