Up to this season, the UW-Whitewater women’s soccer team has won only one game against UW-Stevens Point, going all the way back to when the series first began in 1992.

Although they had the share of the conference title a season ago, the Warhawks have said all year that they have the mindset of getting over that bump, to defeat the Pointers with the chance of having the conference title all to themselves.

Winners of five consecutive games, the ’Hawks traveled to Stevens Point Saturday and earned their second win over the Pointers, 3-2.

Senior Emily Gerber scored one goal in the game, while dishing out two assists. Junior Christina Tooren added with a goal and an assist.

The team also defeated UW-Superior 5-1 on Sunday.

UW-Whitewater stands strong with 9-4-1 overall record and 4-1-1 in the WIAC. They remain in a tie in first place with UW-La Crosse and UW-Stout.

This season has been a work in progress for the `Hawks squad as they have defeated major rivals and suffered only four losses.

The team, coming off five straight victories, is looking to make it six but will need to take down the UW-River Falls Falcons (6-10-0) on Saturday.

This game will be followed by the final home game of the regular season on Oct. 29 against UW-Eau Claire.

The Blugolds (9-4-2) have played strong so far and will pose to be a challenging opponent for the `Hawks.
