Chris Jones, ’08, is a world-renowned hypnotist and comedian who had his big break hypnotizing Howie Mandel during a 2015 episode of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” Jones got his start performing card and magic tricks at UW-La Crosse.

The University Center at UW-Whitewater is a place where students can chill out and have fun outside of their dorms. The facility hosts activities and invites entertainers of all kinds to bring fun to campus. This spring semester has a lineup that will surely be enjoyed by many.

As a “welcome back to campus” event, the UC Live crew is hosting a “Winterfest – Casino Night” Friday, Jan. 26. Events at Warhawk Alley start at 10 a.m., but the real fun begins at 7 p.m. with mug/plate/snowman pin painting at Ike Schaffer Commons and karaoke in the Down Under. Magician and comedian Tyler Korso will be performing two sets, one starting at 7 p.m. and the other at 8:30 p.m. There will be a casino at the UC Concourse and Bingo in the Hamilton Room. There will also be mocktails and snacks outside of Einstein Bros. Bagels.

Every Thursday at 7 p.m., the Down Under hosts some sort of entertainment, whether that is bringing in an entertainer or relying on students to be the entertainment. Starting off Feb. 1, the improv group “Mission IMPROVable” will be visiting for a night of improv. Other entertainers coming are UW-La Crosse graduate hypnotist Chris Jones Feb. 8, storyteller Odd Rod Feb. 29, comedian Ahmed Al-Kadri March 7, magician Noah Sonie March 14, singer Matthew Schuler April 4, and comedian AJ Wilkerson April 11.

The Down Under also has their share of student-lead entertainment. They have Marvel Movie Trivia Feb. 15, Game Show Night Feb. 22, Karaoke March 21 and May 2, and Open Mic Night April 25. These are some events that you would not want to miss out on, as you can connect with your friends or meet new people.

UC Live also hosts special events. Some to look forward to are a Masquerade Ball Friday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m., a scavenger hunt Friday, March 15, and a petting zoo Friday, April 19 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Want to do some arts & crafts? Well UC Live offers that too at the Warhawk Connection Center. All are free to the UW-Whitewater students, with the use of your Hawkcard, and are a first come, first serve. There is a DIY stickers and patches workshop Tuesday, Feb. 20, Succulent Workshop Tuesday, April 9, and a Warhawk Craft Night Tuesday, April 23.

There are always things to do around the University Center, and the UC Live team makes sure that students are never bored. For more information about events happening around the University Center, visit https://www.uww.edu/uc/events_entertainment/uc-live.
