The summer season is approaching in Whitewater and the city is gearing up to host a variety of fun events. With the academic year winding down, more people will be available to enjoy activities in the warm weather. The season is jam packed with a great deal of entertaining events to fill your schedule. Tell your friends and family about what’s coming up this calendar season and make an effort to support Whitewater!
On the first weekend of May, there is the Whitewater Storytelling Festival. The festival contains storytelling, an art exhibit, and a vendor market with one-of-a-kind items. It is held at Whitewater’s Arts Alliance’s Cultural Arts Center at 6-10 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
A lot of events that are upcoming for this summer involve music. One recurring event throughout the summer is live music at the Fuzzy Pig every Friday from 6-8 p.m. Another includes Concerts in the Park that will go throughout the summer.
Some other repeating events include great alternatives to get active. The Walkaholics Community Walking Group at Whitewater Nutrition meets every Thursday from 6-7 p.m. and Fit Camp is also held at the same location from 6-7 p.m. every Monday.
“We have our Thursday night concerts starting July 18 and going through August 22,” said Adult Program Coordinator of the Whitewater Aquatic & Fitness Center Jennifer Jackson.
Another reputable summer event in the area is the Whitewater City Market. It is located at the Historic Whitewater Depot and it has lived up to its name in years past. The market has been around since 2015 and attracts locals and tourists that are looking for fresh food, more live music and a special experience that is distinctive to Whitewater. The Outdoor Market will open every Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. starting May 7 and will run until Sept. 22.
Another event that had a great showing last year in Whitewater is Cars & Coffee. The family-friendly car show event held on the first Sunday in June and August at the Lake Home Info and Next Home Success will be looking to repeat their success from last year. There will of course be coffee and cars, but also treats from local vendors.
“It’s a small midwestern town so there are plenty of festivals in the city and surrounding area, live music, outdoor recreational activities especially for hikers, bikers, and lake lovers all within about a fifteen-minute drive from the center of the city,” said Lisa Dawsey Smith, Board Chair of Downtown Whitewater.
The city has planned a great deal of events for the city once again this year. A good amount of these events are repeat events from previous years, but that must contribute to how the community still enjoys spending their time attending these fun events. From a wide variety of outdoor live music to coffee and car meets, there is an event for everyone. Show your support this summer and represent the community at one of these exciting events.
