Ultimate Frisbee season comes to end

The Ultimate Frisbee team at UW-Whitewater is a competitive program that places a great amount of emphasis on dedication and hard work to ensure the team performs at a high level.

Combining the athletic endurance of soccer and the passing skills of football, the sport is more difficult and physically demanding than simply throwing around a Frisbee. Players must transition quickly from offense to defense, which requires them to be in great shape.

The sport is played by two teams of seven players. The objective is to move the Frisbee down the field until reaching the opponent’s end zone, similar to football. When in possession of the disc, a player must stop running and pass the disc to a teammate.

UW-Whitewater Sub Par has been a team since 1998. It has both a fall and spring season, but practices continue throughout the winter. The spring season has the highest implications. It is the most important season of the two because sectionals, regionals, and nationals take place during spring.

The Warhawks typically participate in six to eight tournaments each year. Several of these tournaments are often held in other states. The ‘Hawks will travel to Missouri this weekend to participate in the Missouri Loves Company (MLC) Tournament.

President Austin Patty has nothing but high hopes for this year’s squad.

“We have a very young team this year,” Patty said. “However, we still have high expectations for all of our players, rookies included.”

These expectations are a reflection of the effort the team puts forth during practices. The Warhawks look for their commitment in practice to pay off in tournament play. The MLC Tournament is sure to put their abilities to the test.

Although there are 27 members currently on the roster, Patty says the team is always looking for more potential players to contribute.

If Club Ultimate Frisbee is something that interests you, stop by to watch a practice at the intramural fields anytime between 4 -6 p.m.
