The UW-Whitewater men’s and women’s track and field teams hosted the Midwest Elite Invitational Feb. 13-14, a meet that head coach Mike Johnson has called the toughest meet in all of Division III track and field.
While most of the action took place Feb. 14, both programs competed in the 5,000-meter run the day prior. On the men’s side, senior Dan Anderson finished second in the race with a time of 14 minutes and 22.77 seconds, the sixth-fastest time in program history. Freshman Abi Anderson also posted the sixth-fastest time in program history on the women’s side, finishing her run in 18:22.81.
The following day was packed with events with the busy fieldhouse reflecting that. The men’s team charted seven first-place finishers, including junior Aiden Neduzak in the triple jump (13.96 meters), junior Caleb Beightol in the 60m dash (6.76 seconds), freshman Kody Wassman in the 3,000m run (8:58.12), and the team’s 4x400m relay (3:18.64).
As for the women’s team, they charted two first-place finishers, including senior Katie Erb in the mile run (5:05.61) and freshman Madison Wnek in the 3000m run (11:12.90).
The track and field teams travel to La Crosse to compete in the Eagle Invite Feb. 20, the final competition before the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 27-28.
