The 10th annual Best of Whitewater survey invited community members to rank their favorite spots around Whitewater, featuring categories for everyone. While responses varied widely across the community, part of the survey focused specifically on UW-Whitewater students, highlighting the best places, organizations and activities on campus. This gave students the opportunity to discover new favorites while reinforcing what they already love about campus life.
Some categories blended both campus and the greater Whitewater community. For example, when asked about the best place to work out, 34.6% of the 81 respondents chose UW-Whitewater’s gym, the Williams Center. However, community influence was still strong, with Anytime Fitness coming in a close second.
When it comes to activities, homecoming festivities stood out as a clear favorite, earning nearly half of the votes. Homecoming week includes games, a talent show and banner competitions, making it a highlight of the year. Fall appears to be a particularly popular season, as Family Fest was also ranked highly.

One of the most decisive victories came in the category of “Best UW-W Performance Center.” Young Auditorium (YA) dominated, drawing over 70% of the votes. Its popularity extends beyond students, as the YA regularly hosts performances for the wider community, such as traveling shows like Ballet Hispánico and Chicago.
Dining spots on campus also showed clear preferences. Drumlin Dining Hall took the top spot. Esker Dining Hall, its twin counterpart, ranked among the lowest. The University Center’s “Down Under” dining area also performed well, with The Dub, known for burgers, pizza and chicken, coming in as a strong runner-up.
In the category of “Best UW-W Club Sport,” results were highly varied, with no clear winner. Similarly, “University Entertainment” was somewhat split, though two University Center offerings stood out. Warhawk Alley took first place, followed by Down Under performances, which include comedians, magicians and other live acts.
Andersen Library, despite being located on the edge of campus, was the overwhelming choice for “Best Study Spot.” When it came to residence halls, Pulliam Hall was the clear favorite.
Greek life was also represented in the survey. Phi Delta Theta was recognized for hosting the best Greek-sponsored event on campus, as well as being named Best Interfraternity Council member.
“We’re happy we won. It’s always a great thing,” Phi Delta Theta vice president, Micheal Phelps said.
Finally, the College of Business and Economics was voted the best college at UW-Whitewater, likely reflecting the university’s large and well-known business program.
Overall, the student-focused results of the Best of Whitewater survey highlight not only the most popular spots on campus, but also the traditions, activities and experiences that shape student life at UW-Whitewater. Whether it’s studying at Andersen Library, attending Homecoming events, or grabbing a meal at Drumlin, these favorites reflect a shared culture that brings students together year after year.
