As I take a break from group projects, assignments and studying for exams, to look back on my time at the Royal Purple several things come to mind.
First, this was an amazing opportunity to have. Our paper might be small, but working at the RP gives you more experience than any internship or job the typical college student can get. Within the small confines of our office you can go from selling ads, to marketing, to budgeting and managing our staff all within five minutes of you walking in the door.
Second, the staff that works for the RP is second to none. While this year was vastly different than any other, including me could have ever imagined it really showed what a hardworking and dedicated staff can accomplish.
No matter what last minute ad needed to be created, we could always count on someone being willing to step up and stay until 1 a.m. to be sure it was finished. Same goes for when the papers were coming in late from the printers. There were multiple RP members that were eager to get up by 5 a.m. to ensure that the paper was in the stands before morning classes.
Third and finally, none of my successes as manager would have been possible without several key people. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people that helped me and the RP this semester.
Matt: I still think you are part financial calculator, but thank you for always providing support for the numerous tough decisions we had to make this year. I look forward to working with you in the future and retiring as millionaires.
Cortni: you and I have the most dysfunctional relationship I have ever been a part of. Tear sheets and putting things in the ERP might be your weakness, but thank you for showing me the ropes and being willing to step up into any role that we needed filled.
Mike: you were the most calm person I know. No matter how many questions I asked or the times I asked “hey can we fit this ad in?” two minutes before deadline, you never got mad and always made it happen. I sincerely appreciate it.
Molly and Sunny: you saved the RP more times than I can count making last minute changes in between classes and it was a pleasure working with you.
Greg and Lynn: while you are new on staff, in this short time you have significantly shaped where the RP is going and I can’t wait to see what changes you have in store.
To end, I would like to thank Kyle who never lost faith in my leadership, or our entire side for that matter, and I sincerely appreciate that and everything you taught me. The future looks incredibly bright for the Royal Purple and I am extremely happy and fortunate to have been a part of it.
