After four years it’s hard to believe that it’s almost over. When I was still in high school the idea of college scared me at first, and the idea of starting over with schooling again was intimidating to say the least. But now with hindsight I’m happy to say that I do not regret it. As cheesy as it sounds, Whitewater has changed my life. I’ve pushed myself out there in ways I never thought I could and made friendships that will last a lifetime.
But one way that I pushed myself was telling myself to join some sort of organization that can help me flex my creative muscles. And that’s when The Royal Purple showed up for me. I had never done anything like this before and I wanted to push myself before I graduated so I decided to join, and I’m so glad I did. These last two semesters have taught me so much, like teamwork. Being on a team and having to rely on each other, and being there for each other when we need it.
But also the sense of community. I’m so grateful for the friends I’ve made at The Royal Purple, and Whitewater in general, for that matter, and for making me (someone who’s more reserved and laid back) into someone who’s willing to talk and put their ideas out there. But most of all, I’m grateful for the work I’ve created. I’m proud of all the banners, the art pieces and everything in between. I feel like The Royal Purple has only made me better in my graphic design career, and I’m so glad it has.
All in all, these past four years have been a wild ride. And to be honest I didn’t think I was going to make many friends or have enough work to call my own, or be part of an organization. But I’m happy to say it turned out just the opposite. And The Royal Purple was a big part of that. And as delighted as I am that I accomplished so much, I still have a lot to learn, and a lot of life to experience. This is only just the beginning, and I can’t wait to get started!
