Local restaurant looks for community members on-the-go

Driving west on Main Street from campus, it’s hard to miss the taco truck located on North 12th Place right before Sentry.

The truck, which offers a wide-range of authentic Mexican food, is a branch of Los Agaves Restaurant in Delavan owned by Francisco Valadez.

The truck is open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and has been located in the same spot for the past two years.

Francisco Valadez, speaking through daughter and translator Vanessa Valadez, said he chose to bring the truck to Whitewater because of the college population.

“We came to Whitewater because of the university,” Valadez said. “We thought it might be good business.”

Valadez chose the location based on traffic flow to other area businesses and proximity to Main Street. He said he likes to keep his location consistent so customers know where to find the truck.

Valadez said the truck offers a good selection of food with fair prices.

Each day, two employees from the Delavan restaurant drive the truck to Whitewater and open shop. At night they return the truck to the restaurant.

Valadez said operating the truck is a big responsibility, especially on top of running a restaurant, but it’s worth it because he is proud of what he does. Valadez has worked in the restaurant business since 2001 and opened Los Agaves Restaurant in Janesville four years ago.
