Baseball team’s streak at seven

The Warhawks dominated offensively this weekend, hitting 13 home runs in four games en route to a four-game sweep over UW-Stout.
“Offensively we’ve never looked better so it was a real positive weekend for us,” head coach John Vodenlich said. “The qualities of our bats were noticeable and I don’t think we made an easy out all weekend.”

The first two games started the home run derby, after the ’Hawks hit eight home runs and defeated the Blue Devils 10-6 and 11-3.
“There was wind and that never hurts, but our guys were locked in and they still have to have barrel on the ball and they were doing that very well,” Vodenlich said.
Freshman Mike Mierow and Marty Herum continued their hot hitting after each of them hit two homers in the two games.
With the cold, wet and windy weather, Vodenlich said it was tough for the pitchers to really get in a groove. Besides that factor, he said he was happy with the way they tossed the ball.
“Eric Schmitz really battled well and as did Matt Roberts,” Vodenlich said. “So I think we have some guys that are really pitching well and are stepping up and we’re going to need them because we have six important games coming up.”
Sunday’s games weren’t any different for the ’Hawks after they defeated the Blue Devils 12-1 and 11-8.
Senior Kyle Stewart continued his dominance, going eight innings while only giving up one run. Stewart is now 7-0 on the season  in seven starts with a 1.83 ERA.
“Our guys pitched very well and we got quality starts,” Vodenlich said.
Sophomore Dylan Friend highlighted the last games, going six for nine with a home run. The ’Hawks offense continues to roll as they have seven guys batting over .300, including three over .400.
The ’Hawks have a tough weekend ahead of them, facing WIAC-leader UW-La Crosse. Like the ’Hawks, the Eagles are on a hot streak after sweeping UW-Oshkosh.
“UW-La Crosse has a lot of talent and they have four games at home and are riding high after beating UW-Oshkosh in all four games by one run in the last inning,” Vodenlich said. “I think we match up very well with them and I’m looking forward to it.”
