The Warhawks women’s soccer team clinched a perfect record in conference on Saturday night at Fiskum Field, defeating UW-River Falls 2-0.
The ’Hawks were celebrating Senior Day, commemorating the collegiate careers of Kelsey Finn, Chrissy Tooren, Alyssa Chamberlain and Emily Stocks.
“What a group of seniors,” head coach Ryan Quamme said. “I’ve been here five years, just a year longer than they have, but what they have done for Warhawks soccer…three conference championships, and that group…each of them brought something different to the table. They’ve all been very important.”
The two goals for the ’Hawks were scored by freshman Jenna Woodson and Tooren.
“The game was great,” Finn said. “We started off slow, brought our A-game and got our two goals.”
Tooren said she thought the game went really well.
“We wanted to be 8-0 in conference, and that’s what we did.” Tooren said. “I think it all came out good.”
The Warhawks had seven saves from sophomore goalie Jordan Myers. Sophomore Sarah Sedler had the game’s only assist. On the experience of Senior Day, the seniors spoke of it very highly.
“It was a great experience … especially to get the win, and now we have all postseason to finish up,” said senior Christina Tooren.
“Senior Day is great,” said senior Emily Stocks. “We get honored for what we have done, but I think it all goes down to the team cause without the whole team we wouldn’t be where we are at today.”
The Warhawks finished their regular season at 13-4-1. They finished undefeated in conference at 8-0.
The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament starts on Nov. 1. The ’Hawks will play at home at Fiskum Field at 6 p.m. for the semifinal game. The second game of the tournament will also be in Whitewater, starting at 1 p.m. at Fiskum Field on Saturday, Nov. 3.
