The Warhawks pulled off an impressive win against the UW-River Falls Falcons Saturday afternoon with a final score of 72-69. This win concluded the regular season for the ’Hawks on a seven game winning streak.
The team was ahead of the Falcons during the entire first half, but during the second half UW-River Falls’s David Berthene scored a three-pointer at 11:14 that gave the Falcons a 51-50 lead.
“We played a pretty good first half defensively,” Luke Knoble said. “Second half we had a couple defensive lapses, but we found a way to win.”
Knoble had four fouls within 10 minutes left in the second half.
“We had a pretty good lead [at halftime],” Knoble said. “[Head coach Pat Miller] said we couldn’t get too confident, and that we have to keep playing defense and not give up. We did just that,”
The game was close throughout, but the ‘Hawks captured the win when Eric Bryson shot two free-throws, making the score 72-69 with nine seconds left in the game.
The ‘Hawks’ next game will be in the semifinal round of the WIAC Tournament and will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in Whitewater.
