Coming out of DeForest High School, UW-Whitewater senior Emily Gerber was a basketball player. She led the Norskies to two straight WIAA State Tournament runs and decided to play for Division-II St. Joseph’s College (Ind.).
After a slow start to the season, the Whitewater men’s soccer team defeated Ripon College 3-1 Sunday in a matinee game on family day and moved to 2-4 on the season.
The Warhawks are off to a strong start to the season with a record of (3-3-1). This past weekend the women tied UW-Lacrosse 0-0 and defeated Ripon College 10-1.

Last season, the men’s soccer team finished its season 14-2-4 after bowing out of the NCAA tournament in the round of 16. The team is also the two-time, defending WIAC champions, and the National Soccer Coaches of America Association preseason poll had the team ranked No. 13 in the nation.
Good things are pointing in the right direction for the women’s soccer team. After claiming their first-ever share of the WIAC championship last season, the Warhawks have the chance to repeat.

Last Friday the men’s soccer team battled the heat, and visiting Pacific Lutheran College in their season opener. The Warhawks kept it tight and managed to force the game into overtime, but wound up losing 2-1.
The women’s soccer team started the season as if they continued from a season ago. The defending WIAC champions defeated Concordia University 5-1 last Thursday.
With only one non-conference match left before WIAC play begins, the Warhawk men’s soccer team will try to remain undefeated as they travel to Carroll University on Sunday.
