Haute Hawks: Valentine’s Day style options

Feb. 14, 2015

By Jordan Gittens

[dropcap]V[/dropcap]alentine’s day is here, and there are four outfits that we can utilize; “First Date,” “We’ve Been Dating for Four Years,” “I’m Single and Wine is My Best Friend” and “I’m on The Hunt.” These are all of the outfits that are needed on this day, whether it be happy, or depressing.

The first outfit that is easiest in the Valentine’s Day repertoire is “I’m Single and Wine is My Best friend.”

This outfit consists of three things: a sweater, your comfiest pair of sweatpants and fuzzy socks. Accessorize this with tears and a bottle of Syrah (it goes best with saltiness). Wear this all weekend while marathoning Parks and Rec and you won’t regret a second of it.

The next outfit you can choose, if you’re single and decide to raise yourself from this slump, is “I’m on the Hunt.”

This usually includes something that is more form fitting and says “I’m not just hot, I’m deadly.” This can be done in two ways; one of these ways requires you to brave the cold, and the other leaves you more covered.

Your best choice is your black dress and heels, with this you can either go Meghan Trainor cute or Nicki Minaj fierce. To play the cutesy role; choose a black baby doll dress with oxford heels and a chunky necklace. Curl your hair for that America’s sweetheart look.

If you would prefer to kill a man with your eyes, a longer fitted dress will work wonders for you. Accessorize with one or two sleek pieces of gold or silver and you will be serving a look worthy of the Gods. A pair of strappy stilettos work best for this look. To put yourself over the edge, straighten and tease your hair. It should hold all of the secrets that you have. Also, go for a smoky eye and a natural lip. You don’t want to do too much, but just enough.
The next look that you can deliver is the “We’ve Been Dating for Four Years.” Now, this one is much simpler and more than likely your partner has seen you at your worse so it’s OK. If you’re going to a nice sit down dinner, a dress that compliments your frame will work nicely. A pair of kitten heels and a small gold or silver necklace will work nicely (maybe pearls if you can swing it).

If your partner can’t dress himself, a button down underneath a sweater with dark jeans or dress pants will do.

The other choice you have is for a much more relaxed night. Just a movie, dinner and a night at home. Jeans with a V-neck and a cardigan do the trick and doesn’t take much time to put together.

The “First Date” outfit is very much like the “We’ve Been Dating for Four Years” choice.  You want your outfit to say “I’m giving you a chance, but I can still crush you with one heel.” You want to be powerful and let your date know exactly what kind of girl you are.

No matter what kind of Valentine’s Day you have, have a good time – even if you’re spending the day by yourself or with friends. Whatever you do, look good while doing it.
