In November 2024, a group of community leaders, educators, and local historians came together to form the Rock County Celebrates America 250 Planning Committee. The committee was created to help coordinate countywide participation in the nation’s upcoming Semiquincentennial—the 250th anniversary of the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence in 1776.
By working collaboratively, the committee aims to highlight the rich and diverse history of Rock County while connecting it to the broader story of the United States.
Early in its formation, the committee established a guiding mission and goal to shape its work.
Mission: To discover, explore, and appreciate Rock County’s role, contributions, and stories within the broader tapestry of American history.
Goal: To collaborate with community partners across Rock County in order to inspire a meaningful and unifying celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence.
One important outcome of the committee’s work has been the creation of a dedicated website designed to promote historical programming and events throughout the Semiquincentennial year. The site highlights programming from local history museums,
cultural institutions, libraries, and community organizations, helping to coordinate and amplify the many ways Rock County will participate in this national commemoration.
Community organizations are encouraged to submit their events so they can be included in the growing calendar of activities celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

The Rock County Celebrates America 250 Planning Committee is chaired by Kathy Boguszewski, who works with committee members and community partners to help ensure that Rock County’s stories, heritage, and contributions are recognized as part of this historic national celebration.
