What a year.
With seven conference championships and three national titles, UW-Whitewater athletics has shown this year that it is one of the best in Division-III.
Davis’ performance not only helped the ’Hawks win a national title, but almost every individual award given away. Davis earned the Final Four’s MVP and the National Player of the Year, something no UW-Whitewater basketball player had ever achieved before.
If someone would have told me the UW-Whitewater men’s basketball team would make it to the Final Four and win a national championship before the season started, I wouldn’t have believed it.
Actually, I probably would have bet against it.
First team all WIAC, check. WIAC player of the year, check. First Team All-American, check. All-Tournament team, check.
Last, but definitely not least, National Player of the Year, check.
This past weekend, I had the privilege of being a part of history at UW-Whitewater when the men’s basketball team made a remarkable run to a national championship.
On the court of the Salem Civic Center Arena, it read “Salem, Virginia’s Championship City.”
They might as well change that to ‘Whitewater’s Championship City,’ after the UW-Whitewater men’s basketball team defeated Cabrini College 63-60 in a stunning 18-point comeback Saturday night in the Division-III National Championship game.
