Last week, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Interfraternity Council suspended the Pi Kappa Alpha Chapter from campus for five years after it violated its probation that prohibited them from hosting any sort of gathering. The Pi Kappa Alpha Chapter held an “informal formal” that involved 15 members of the fraternity. The Chapter will be able to return to campus in 2023, under a probation status.

Both the administration and the overall campus population at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater need to be doing more to protect members of our community who are undocumented citizens. Steps we all can – and should – take involve contacting members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, and setting up emergency reserve funds for students who must continue their education without federal loan support.

The City of Whitewater denied a request to rezone the property that the 1868 Hamilton House resides on last Tuesday night. Following the guidance of the Plan Commission and Christine Munz-Pritchard, who recommended the Council deny the rezone application, the Council unanimously voted to keep the property zoned as Planned Development instead of R-3. The sale of the home was contingent on the approval of the rezone application.
