Kelly Hatch, associate professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023, after a battle with cancer.

It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the death of a Warhawk family member. Kelly Hatch, associate professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, passed away Tuesday, March 21, after a battle with cancer.

Kelly came to UW-Whitewater in 2015 as an associate lecturer, and later served as assistant professor and most recently as associate professor. She taught reading courses and was instrumental in the partnership between UW-Whitewater and Wisconsin’s Ice Age Trail, where she developed an outdoor classroom and took her classes there to connect literacy and nature.

Our thoughts are with Kelly’s colleagues in the College of Education and Professional Studies, and all the employees at our university who had the privilege of working with her — and the students whose lives were transformed by her teaching and mentorship. We also extend our condolences to her family and friends.

As we process this information, please know that counseling services are available to you. Students, please contact University Health and Counseling Services. For faculty and staff, please contact Kepro, the Employee Assistance Program.

The UW-Whitewater flag will fly at half-staff on Thursday, April 6, in Kelly’s memory.
